What's New
at the Wild, Wacky, Whimsical World of Janet Wald

Another year has past and
this one seemed to just zip by. It really does
seem that the older one gets the faster time moves
ahead. Does it seem that way to you?

2006 was my year to play
catch-up after my year of frozen shoulder. My
house and yard desperately needed attention after
my year of forced vacation. The house got new
windows and doors and lots of new wallpaper and
paint. That took most of the summer but it was
well worth the effort. It seems there is always
something to do to older homes. This house is the
same age as I am and just like me it shows it's
age but unlike me I can throw a coat of paint on
it and it looks new again. I wish I could do the
same for myself but alas I can't.
This has been an unusually
cold winter here in Southern Oregon and that makes
for a perfect time to spend painting in my studio.
I tried my hand at painting orchids and think I
will paint some more.
The painting on the right is a Paphiopedilum,
commonly called a lady slipper that I "bloomed".
They are wonderful orchids, very hardy and easy to
grow and the bloom lasts for weeks and weeks.

The painting on the left is
a Phalaenopsis. The model was one of my white
ladies but I must admit I added more blooms. Both
are painted on door blanks. I love to paint on
them as they have a built in frame.
I got my new 8. mp digital
camera for Christmas and can hardly wait to take
close ups of my orchids as they bloom. I have
about 40 Cattleya (prom-night corsage orchid),15
Phalaenopsis (moth orchids), and 5 Paphiopedilum
(lady slipper type). They are all beautiful and
the colors are breath-taking.
Check out my new designs at
"Designs". I have some beautiful lilacs, an autumn
box, a new Witchie design on a fun cake plate and
a charming Victorian vignette and a gorgeous tray
on the "seminar"page. Check out my new favorite
wood source,
Coyote
Woodworks. They made the gorgeous tray,
the lacey plaques and the Halloween cake plate
with the cat and jack-o-lantern legs. Too fun!
Until next time, stay happy
and keep painting!
